Illinois House Democrats continue to face a growing list of ethics scandals involving members of their caucus.

Last week Democrat Representative Carol Ammons of Urbana was indicted by a grand jury in the U.S. District Court on 10 federal charges including using state grants to receive cash kickbacks and illegally using campaign dollars for personal use. Now an Illinois House commission will investigate her actions.

But, Republican State Representative Patrick Windhorst from Metropolis said recently the ethics committee should be meeting to make Illinois’ laws the strictest in the country.

In addition to the Ammons indictments, former Democrat State Representative Harry Benton of Plainfield handed over the paperwork to remove himself from the general election ballot on Tuesday – eleven days after he pledged to bow out of his reelection race.

Benton resigned earlier this month in the wake of a Legislative Inspector General’s report concerning alleged misconduct.
