Two Illinois Republicans have asked the commissioner of the WNBA to protect a player who has weighed in on transgender athletes in women’s sports.

Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham in a July 21 ESPN profile talked about transgender participation in sports, but denied hating trans people and said she was speaking up to “protect women’s sports.”
