Boston College lands commitment from ’27 EDGE Alex Johnson – 247Sports

Boston College has landed a commitment from Class of ’27 EDGE rusher Alex Johnson of Catawba Ridge (NC). A three star recruit, Johnson was a fast rising recruit who put together a monster offer list that included offers from Georgia, Michigan, Louisville, Georgia Tech, Duke, SMU, NC State, Vanderbilt, Illinois, Missouri and Vanderbilt. A three star recruit, the 6-4 Johnson was a two sport athlete, also wrestling for his high school program. 

“I choose Boston College because I think this is the best opportunity for me in the classroom and on the field,” he tells Eagle Insider. His relationship with the coaches also stood out on his visit. “These coaches are amazing people and have very high intelligence on the game that’s why I choose BC I trust them enough to put my future in their hands.”

The Eagles got an official visit from Johnson this past weekend, and that helped seal the deal with the much sought after defender. He had already visited the Cardinals and had official visits set up to Virginia, Michigan, Vanderbilt and NC State. Johnson finished his junior season with 60 tackles and 7 sacks. Part of the reason his recruitment got so hot was that he really grew and continued to fill out. 

Rated an 88, Johnson is a three star recruit and the #61 EDGE in the country, but given how he has progressed, wouldn’t be shocking if he sees those ratings rise.

Takeaways: This is an enormous get for Boston College, as they beat out a number of programs that typically win these battles against the Eagles. Johnson became a hot commodity for a reason, as his recruitment absolutely took off, and for the Eagles to a) identify him and get in early b) get him on campus and c) win the recruiting battle is a one of the most impressive recruiting wins in the past two years under Bill O’Brien. Yes, the Eagles lost Braylon Otis, in a departure that looks like it was mutual, but BC more than made up for it with the commitment of Alex Johnson.
